Once A Month Sister!
Adult women of all ages are encouraged to perform breast self-exams at least once a month. Johns Hopkins Medical Center states,
“Forty percent of diagnosed breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump, so establishing a regular breast self-exam is very important.”
While mammograms can help you to detect cancer before you can feel a lump, breast self-exams help you to be familiar with how your breasts look and feel so you can alert your healthcare professional if there are any changes.
Some women who have discovered cancerous lumps on their own weren’t looking for them in a deliberate self-check. But these same women now urge others to examine their own breasts regularly.
Follow this link to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc for information and simple instructions on how to give yourself a BSE every month.
Even though I no longer have breast, I still do my BSE. I have found two lumps on my chest-wall in the past couple of years. Thankfully, they turned out to be nothing to worry about, however had I not found them, it may have turned out differently?

I always do my BSE in the shower. I get all suds up and just slide my hands around my chest-wall. I check under and all around my arm pits, between my rib bones and around my incision sites. The whole process takes about a minute or less for me to do this.
Please take the time to do this every month, it could save your life.
Mothers tell your daughters, daughters listen to your mothers...it's important. Breast Cancer isn't a "hush - hush" topic any longer. Educate your children, especially if b/c runs in your family.
